From the Director's Desk
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the web page of the Institute for Medical Research (IMR). The IMR is the biomedical research arm of the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia and is one of six component research institutes under the National Institutes of Health Malaysia. This web page is designed to highlight the various functions and activities of the Institute with emphasis on our research, services, consultations and training.
At the IMR, we are dedicated to carrying out research to address diseases and health issues pertinent to the country. Our commitment to research over the last 115 years has led to better understanding of diseases and, more importantly, provided the scientific evidence for informed decision-making and formulation of prevention and control programmes. Our research has resulted in the development of technical innovations and products that help to prevent, detect, diagnose, treat and control diseases.
We are also proud of our specialized diagnostic services; indeed, several of our medical tests are accredited and our testing facilities designated as national referral centres and laboratories. Our diagnostic laboratories continue to support the MOH during outbreak and pandemic investigations.
We also provide training in specialised fields to scientists, doctors, undergraduates and other health care professionals either through formal training courses and workshops or through short term attachment programmes.
Our research is aligned with the national health research priority areas. Our current research focuses on dengue, tuberculosis, malaria, cancer, stem cells, rheumatoid arthritis and environmental health.
