The Expert Working Group Meeting on Accelerating Access to Human Genomics for All in the Western Pacific was co-hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the KEMENTERIAN KESIHATAN MALAYSIA , Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Malaysia on the 11th and 12th November 2024 at Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The MOH and MOSTI are honoured to have this gathering of experts, policymakers, and leaders from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, China, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore and Viet Nam, here in Kuala Lumpur, all dedicated to driving public health transformation via advancing human genomics across our region.

For Malaysia, this is a particularly exciting moment as we embark on our first large-scale human genomics initiatives. Malaysia’s richly diverse population, comprising at least 70 ethnic, cultural, and linguistic groups, offers a unique landscape for harnessing genomics to address health needs across all our communities.

We believe that genomics can be transformative for Malaysia—enabling us to address health disparities and make our healthcare more effective, equitable, and inclusive. Our sincere gratitude goes to the WHO and the diverse group of experts on policy, equity, and workforce development for their unwavering support and collaborative spirit.
