Introduction to Special Resource Centre (SRC)

SRC

The Special Resource Centre (SRC), previously known as MRRC before 2019, serves as a vital hub for supporting research, training, consultation, and advanced diagnostic services. As a centre under The Institute for Medical Research (IMR), Ministry of Health Malaysia, SRC is committed to facilitating and enhancing research initiatives through strategic supportive services. It comprises four specialized units: the Biomedical Epidemiology Unit, the Biomedical Museum Unit, the Electron Microscopy Unit, and the Laboratory Animal Resource Unit.

SRC provides a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the diverse needs of the scientific and medical community. Key offerings include advanced epidemiological analytics, disease forecasting, geographical information system (GIS)-based tools, and disease surveillance systems. The centre also specializes in electron microscopy diagnostics, research, and training, supporting a wide array of scientific investigations.

In addition, SRC excels in live animal handling and research, contributing to laboratory animal studies essential for biomedical advancements. The Biomedical Museum Unit focuses on the preservation and archiving of biomedical collections, including taxidermy and research on rare specimens. Furthermore, SRC supports the dissemination of scientific knowledge through the management of IMR publications, periodicals, and online journals. It also provides resources for documentation, multimedia, and medical illustrations, which enhance the preparation of professional presentations and publications.

Through its diverse capabilities and specialized units, the SRC continues to play a critical role in advancing medical research and innovation, fostering collaboration, and supporting the Ministry of Health's (MOH) research objectives.
