Laboratory Animal Resource Unit Services
The Laboratory Animal Resource Unit at IMR serves as a central facility for the breeding, housing, and management of laboratory animals in support of biomedical and public health research. Located in Setia Alam, Selangor, the unit provides a controlled environment and expertise to ensure that research involving animals is conducted ethically, safely, and in compliance with standard practices.
In addition to animal supply and maintenance, the unit offers a range of services including technical support for sample collection, training for researchers in animal-based study workflows, and consultancy on animal model development. These offerings support both internal IMR teams and external researchers who work in partnership with the institute.
By providing a dedicated resource unit for animal research models, the LARU at IMR underpins the institute’s capability to conduct high-quality, reproducible laboratory research—thereby advancing medical science and contributing to evidence-based public health interventions in Malaysia.
Explore essential documents supporting the ethical and responsible use of animals in scientific, testing, and teaching activities at IMR. The Guidelines for Ethical Conduct in the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes provide the foundation for humane practices, while the accompanying forms such as Applications for Ethics Approval (for teaching, testing, and research projects), Annual/Final Reports for Continuation, and the Animal Monitoring Form, facilitate compliance with institutional and national standards.
