Endocrine Unit

Endocrine Unit
The Endocrine Unit serves as a reference laboratory for specialised diagnostic services in endocrinology and non-communicable diseases. It conducts biomedical research on new biomarkers in these fields. The unit provides various training programs in endocrinology and non-communicable diseases for researchers and officers from within and outside IMR, as well as for students from local and international higher education institutions. It also offers consultancy services in these areas to researchers, officers, and students both within and outside IMR.

Test method development, evaluation and validation
Population based screening and epidemiology
Functions
Serology
Test name: Immunoglobulin E
Description: Measure total and allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) to detect sensitisation to aeroallergens, foods, and drug including component resolved diagnosis.
Cellular
Test name: Basophil Activation Test
Description: Evaluate allergen-induced immune activation
Biomarkers
Test name: Tryptase, Eosinophils Cationic Protein
Description: Measure biomarkers released by activated mast cells and eosinophils, key cells involved in allergy and inflammation. By analysing these biomarkers, clinicians can gain valuable information about the inflammatory pathways, providing accurate diagnosis, and treatment monitoring.
