- To conduct research on herbal medicine and T&CM using evidence-based methods through secondary data to produce information (e.g., rapid reviews, scoping reviews, systematic reviews) that is valuable for healthcare professionals and the general public.
- To carry out pharmacognostic studies for the development of pharmacopoeias and monographs, to elevate Malaysian medicinal herbs, and establish this industry as a key economic sector of the country.
- To compile traditional and scientific information on herbal medicine and T&CM modalities, creating essential reference materials, such as compendiums, and ethnobotanical, and ethnopharmacological publications.
- To conduct computational studies on potential herbs to analyse and predict the toxicity, bioactivity, and suitability of the phytoconstituents for further investigation, assess pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects, and evaluate the impact of medicinal herbs on diseases.
- To maintain a collection of voucher specimens that can be used as records and reference materials for the purpose of validating the herbal medicines studied.
