Welcome to Phytochemistry Unit!
Phytochemistry Unit is a research facility within the Herbal Medicine Research Centre (HMRC) with a small but passionate team embarking on the road to explore the phytochemical diversity of medicinal plant species in Malaysia. Since the establishment of the Unit in 2001 at Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur and starting with only basic High Performance-Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipment, we have expanded our technological capacity and human resource expertise. Our laboratory is now located in the National Institutes of Health, Setia Alam, Selangor and are equipped with advanced discovery and separation technologies necessary for natural products research. This includes Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer, Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Centrifugal Partition Chromatography (CPC), Flash Chromatography, Preparative Recycling High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR).
The central theme for our research in Phytochemistry Unit is the development of innovative phytochemical strategies for the characterization of natural products and the discovery of new chemical entities for medicinal and healthcare product development.
